Bach Cello Suites featuring Benjamin Dry. (Free Entry. Retiring Collection.)
Bach composed six cello suites that have become central and much loved repertoire for the cello. I wish to share these with people in live performance. Old churches are particularly suitable for such performances. The acoustic is often reverberant which allows the tones to mingle slightly and the reverential beauty of such buildings provides an appropriate setting for the performance of Bach, whose nature was also deeply reverential.
Benjamin Dry, born in 1984, recently moved to the UK from South Africa, where he was successful in several competitions and studied with Magdalena Roux at the Stellenbosch Conservatoire. Further scholarships took him to America for four years’ study at the Interlochen Arts Academy and the Oberlin Conservatory. Returning to South Africa, Benjamin gave recitals in and around Cape Town, also studying Eurythmy and working on a family biodynamic farm. Benjamin’s performances, often with pianist Geoffrey Poole, are currently establishing his career as a performer and teacher in the UK.
