The Benefice of St Nicholas Church in Marston and St Thomas of Canterbury Church in Elsfield

 The Archbishops of Canterbury and York have cancelled all public worship in Church of England Churches and asked all church buildings to be locked as part of a national COVID-19 strategy.

St Nicholas and St Thomas Parish Churches exist to serve our communities; this fact does not change regardless of the ongoing effects of a virus. We may be a dispersed community, our public worship may have stopped but our worship of God, our love and care of each other has not.

 Until further notice there will be no public worship held in our two church buildings and our churches are now to remain locked and are no longer open for personal prayer.

To help keep us united at a time when we face isolation and loneliness, and to give us strength and courage for the days ahead, we will be offering the following;

At 9am there will be morning prayer led by a member of the ministry team in their home; you are invited to light a candle in your homes and join us in spirit.

Any prayer requests can be emailed in advance and those prayers will be included in the service. Email –

There are resources that you use at home. One of those is Holy Week in a Box, a resource to help you experience the fullness of Holy Week in your homes. Another is a daily short reflection on a Bible reading produced three times a week. This reflection can be emailed to you (in written form or audio) and is on our website

Do contact me, or one of the churchwardens if you need to talk to someone, need shopping or would like more information on any of the above.
